In Rio Grande do Sul state the municipality with a major problem of flooding is Alegrete. Located in the southwest of the state, the municipality has established its urban area at edge of the Ibirapuitã river. This work is based on data for flooding processes that affected the urban area between 1980 and 2007. From these it was possible to identify the occurrence of different processes of flood affecting 30 districts of the urban area. Thus, defines the area susceptible to flooding processes and zoning of the hazard of flooding in the urban area of Alegrete.No estado do Rio Grande do Sul um dos municípios com maior problema de inundação é Alegrete. Situado na porção sudoeste do estado, o município possui sua área urbana estabelecida às margens do Rio Ibirapuitã. O presente trabalho se fundamenta em dados relativos aos processos de inundação que afetaram o município entre os anos de 1980 e 2007. A partir destes, foi possível identificar a ocorrência de inundações graduais, bruscas e alagamentos afetando 30 bairros da área urbana municipal. Dessa forma, define a área suscetível a processos de inundação e o zoneamento do perigo de inundações na área urbana do município de Alegrete.
