The teaching of Visual Arts in Brazilian Basic Education remains an obscure theme, for many, in relation to the legal guarantees that support such discipline. With the intention of contributing to the general knowledge and explaining inconsistencies found among notes contained in the official documents investigated, the present work seeks to characterize the “universalization of school attendance”, guaranteed by Article 214 of the Federal Constitution, in view of this mandatory matter.             O ensino de Artes Visuais na Educação Básica brasileira permanece sendo um tema obscuro, para muitos, em relação às garantias legais que sustentam tal disciplina. Com a intenção de contribuir para o conhecimento geral e explicitar incongruências encontradas entre apontamentos contidos nos documentos oficiais investigados, o presente trabalho busca uma caracterização enquanto à “universalização do atendimento escolar”, garantida pelo Artigo 214 da Constituição Federal, diante desta matéria obrigatória.
