Resumen
INTRODUCTION: The sport-centered interventions aims the participation of people with disability in sports activities. The modified sport is a new intervention that combines gross motor function training with the introduction to sports practice. However, little is know about the components of this intervention and it’s active components. The goal of this revision was to examine the structures and components of the interventions of modified sports for children and teenagers with disabilities. METHODS: The literature search of the studies characterized by these type of intervention was performed in the databases EMBASE, PubMed, SciELO,
PEDro, CINAHL, SPORTDiscus and Web of Science and by headsearching in reference list of relevant papers. RESULTS: Thirteen studies were selected, characterized by different health conditions of participants and different sports modalities. All studies encompassed children or teenagers able to walk, with or without assistence. The majority of the studies performed the training in real environments and in groups. Not all of them stratified the gross motor skills training from the sport’s training. CONCLUSION: The modified sports are structured by the motor skills training and sports practice, in low doses, in group and in real environments. There is low evidence level of this approach, and new studies are needed for the strengthening of this modality.
