Resumen
After some years of study and observations, Freud has faced a force that impels the human being to crave the inorganic state, and called it “death drive”, but has not deepened his investigation; this has motivated our research for better understanding this
concept, not only in Freud but in other authors as well. We start by presenting the general Freudian concept of “drive”, describing its primordial traits, as source, object, goal and pressure. We pass, then, to the fundamental considerations present in “The
Unconscious and the Id”, presenting the emergency of the death drive concept as opposed to the life drive. In the second chapter, we approach briefly some readings of this concept, and consider at length the conception of Jean Laplanche of the sexual death drive.
