Resumen
This thesis aims to understand how the domestic workers were framed in the brazilian comedies, specially in the chanchadas and neochanchadas. To achieve this goal, this thesis is divided in three different and complementary chapters. In the first chapter we have
done a bibliographic revision about the domestic work’s origins and consolidation, understanding the gender, race and social aspects of it. In the second chapter another bibliographic revision was done, about the chanchadas, a specific brazilian genre and its impact in brazilian industry and production cycles. For the third and final chapter two movies were chosen as the thesis’ main subject, Cala a boca, Etelvina (Brasil, 1959), de Eurides Ramos e O Casamento de Louise (Brasil, 2001), de Betse Paula. They were deeply analysed
through categories created for this research, aiming to understand how the domestic workers were framed and portrayed, with specific patterns and how these imagens influenced other productions.
