Resumen
One of the biggest cases in the dog surgery is the presence of foreign bodies in the gastrointestinal tract, among them, solid or linear foreign bodies, obstructive or causing rupture. As a surgical treatment for this condition present in the caudal gastrointestinal tract, enterectomy may be a necessary procedure in cases of loss of vitality of intestinal segments or ruptures and perforations. However, a number of peritonitis due to anastomotic dehiscence is considered the most common complication of these procedures, and in order to reduce this event, deviations of the intestinal contents can be performed, thus favoring the healing of traumatized and/or perforated intestinal tissue. Among these techniques are jejunostomy, ileostomy, and colostomy, the latter being the most widely described in the literature. Despite presenting an indication or intestinal content diversion, the most reported use is the redirection of the intestinal segment for feeding directly via the intestinal route, especially for the presence of tumors or obstructions in the cranial gastrointestinal tract. For this reason and due to the difficulty of postoperative management, readings descriptions about these procedures are present in the literature. The aim of this paper is to describe the main procedures of this deviation of the caudal gastrointestinal tract in dogs and present a report of three cases where a temporary jejunostomy technique was performed as a form of treatment for dogs with foreign bodies and intestinal obstruction.
