The ultrasound method for Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma (FAST) is recent in veterinary medicine when compared to human. A technique was adapted and aims to assess the presence of free fluid and air in the strategic points of the abdomen and thorax of animals after trauma. It is a quick test and can be performed satisfactorily by professionals with little experience in diagnostic imaging. The objective of this study was to describe the method and the importance of using FAST for evaluation and monitoring of 75 patients treated at the Veterinary Hospital of the Veterinary School of the Federal University of Minas Gerais in the period from March to September 2014.
