This article discusses the role of school librarian in the context of the debate on the work and teaching condition
through a bibliographical qualitative research. Aims to analyze how the school librarian, seen as a teaching worker
engaged in basic education, plays different educational activities that have an impact on the training process of
students. The main theoretical foundation is the result of the research “Teaching Work in Basic Education in
Brazil", performed by the Group of Studies on Educational Policy and Teaching Work at the Federal University
of Minas Gerais. It is conclusively noted that the school librarians do not participate very much in the discussions
related to pedagogical political project of the schools where they act, although they recognize their importance in
the development and training process of their students, which requires a reframing of these professionals at school
and theoretical perspectives that guide.
