Resumen
INTRODUCTION: Chronic low back pain is defined as pain lasting more than 12 weeks. It is a very common disorder, which represents a great loss for the individual and the society. Physiotherapy aims to correct joint biomechanics and several studies have sought evidence for the treatment of chronic low back pain, including spinal manipulation, which corresponds to a manual therapy procedure performed at high speed and low amplitude, at the end range of motion. OBJECTIVE: To check if it is possible to identify the main effects of manipulative therapy (TM) on chronic low back pain, by means of a descriptive literature review. METHODOLOGY: The searches were carried out in the SciELO, PEDro, Google Scholar, MedLine, Cochrane and Lilacs databases. Studies published between 2000 and 2020 have been shown the relationship between vertebral manipulation and chronic low back pain and included the words '' manipulation '' and '' low back pain '' in the title and/or summary of the study, and that included the present relation of spinal manipulation as a treatment for low back pain. RESULTS: For data extraction, the analysis of the form of evaluation and results of 19 studies were made. CONCLUSION: The results achieved in this review describe the positive effects of manipulative therapy on low back pain symptoms, such as pain, functional disability, and mobility.
