Resumen
The Family Health Team from Marmelópolis, state of Minas Gerais, conducted the situational diagnosis of this municipality and verified a significant part of the population used to make harmful use of alcohol. It is known today that the abuse of this substance is associated with the individual’s damage to their physical and mental health and it is one of the main factors for the development of chronic no communicable diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. It's also an outstanding public health problem that needs public policies to prevent and reduce alcohol use, along with the product regulamentation. The brief intervention is a relatively simple, economical and highly effective technique for early diagnosis of its excessive use and helps to motivate the patient towards change, by increasing their level of knowledge regarding the associated risks, to initiate treatment or to refer the severe cases with alcohol use disorder already installed to a specialist. Given these facts, the Family Health Team listed the harmful use of alcohol as an extremely urgent problem, and realized the possibility to implement the brief intervention at primary health care, through a well structured intervention plan in order to reduce the associated damage of its consumption. For the construction of the intervention’s plan a literature review was carried out aiming to study the brief intervention technique, their applications in primary health care, and the achieved results that have already been published in scientific research. As a result of the intervention plan, it is hoped to improve the quality of care for people who abuse alcohol.
