The present work aimed to investigate possibles ways in order that Art, as a curricular component, can be a space in which art-educators act as mediators of image readings that lead to critical thinking in the school context. For this, it was bibliographically revised Brazilians and foreign authors that corroborate with the view that Art teaching is an important tool to make cognition more critical and to reach social insertion, consequently. Furthermore, it was pointed out the normative recognition of Art’s role as articulator of the knowledge’s critical dimension in national and Minas Gerais State’s curriculum documents. Ultimately, it stood out the importance of taking the awareness about walkable teaching paths and an educational experience report was introduced in aspiration to strengthen the task of forming autonomous human beings.
