Resumen
In this paper, complement clauses in spoken American English are analyzed
based on the Language into Act Theory (L-AcT, CRESTI, 2000). According to this theory,
complement clauses will be examined at the interface with information structure,
considering the pragmatic orientation of syntax in speech. Explicit complement
clauses were mapped within the American English minicorpus, extracted from the
Santa Barbara Corpus of Spoken American English (CAVALCANTE; RAMOS, 2016), and the
informational patterns associated to these syntactic constructions were studied, in
order to compare the results to already available data for complement clauses in
Italian and Brazilian Portuguese, based on two comparable minicorpora extracted from
the C-ORAL-ROM (CRESTI; MONEGLIA, 2005) and C-ORAL-BRASIL (RASO; MELLO,
2012) corpora.
