The purpose of this article is to report some of the reflections that a group of researching teachers has been developing in the search for an understanding of the literary reader formation processes and the diffusion of literary reading, based on the development of the Projeto de Ensino, Pesquisa e Extensão Mala de Leitura of the UFMG. Among the many activities developed in the Project, we have sought to understand the literary reader formation processes, having as main reference the strategies used by teachers and other mediators for this training. Although the Project exists for 20 years, working to promote literary reading, our search for the systematization of knowledge that
contributes to understanding the processes of formation of readers is recent. We intend to discover to what extent the activities of the Project, as well as the activities proposed by the class teacher, value the formation of the reader, taking into account how was the
formation of the class teacher himself in his childhood. We pretend to understand how the formation of the teacher as a reader takes place, in order to observe the formation of the student as a reader.
