Resumen
The present research seeks to understand how hegemonic masculinity can cause existential suffering to men. It starts from the existential-phenomenology of Martin Heidegger, conducted by the existential question of being-with-the-others. The guiding thread of this theme is “the they” described by Heidegger in Being and Time, as the way of being taken by the world in an impersonal way and ending up giving equal contours to existences. Hegemonic masculinity is socially imposed as a way of being to be followed by men and idealized by women, demanding the incorporation of men and the subordination of women. To illustrate and, at the same time, deepen the analysis, we analyse a podcast (Mamilos, episode 145 – “masculinity and feeling”) for some relevant themes for this research. In three chapters, this research describes being-with-the-others from the existential-phenomenology perspective, presents hegemonic masculinity and the unveiling of this concept, and in the end, indicates the appropriation of the self in phenomenological-existential psychotherapy as a way of breaking with sickening patterns of being-in-the-world. In this way, the research presents a documental analysis that seeks the social understanding of this theme. The relevant works of this research are by: Martin Heidegger; Spanoudis and Critelli; Critelli; Alice Holzhey-Kunz, Paulo Evangelista; Santos and Sa.
