Resumen
The Artistic Collection of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (AAUFMG) is composed of works of art from three collections donated to the university at three different moments: the first, the Brasiliana collection in the 1960s, the Amigas da Cultura collection in the 1970s and the Rodrigo Mello Franco de Andrade Foundation Collection donated in 2011. At first, the works were acquired with the intention of constituting the collection of the UFMG art museum, but for a number of reasons, the museum's plan did not go ahead. Currently, under the custody of the Directorate of Cultural Actions at UFMG (DAC), the collection remains in a room precariously
conditioned and with little visibility by the community. Understanding the need to change the reality of this collection, DAC proposed to build a visible/visitable storage in a room on the first floor of the UFMG Central Library, in order to improve the preservation of this collection giving a favorable space for its conservation and exhibition. The use of visible or visitable storage has emerged as an alternative for accessing heritage and, therefore, mobilizing society in matters of valuing it and, consequently, encouraging its preservation. In this debate, the importance of the democratization of collections is discussed and the duality present in the preservation dilemma between conservation and exhibition. To assist in the management of the storage and in the preparation of future projects involving this space, this work proposed to carry out an assessment of the site designated by Diretoria de Ação Cultural
(DAC) to be a new visible/visitable storage for guarding the Acervo Artístico da UFMG to potential risks for conservation of the collection as well as monitoring the space reconstruction process, generating the proper records. This assessment was carried out
through site visits, application of the Roteiro Simplificado de Diagnóstico de Condições de Conservação de Coleções, climate data between December 2019 and November 2020 and the use of the Sebera and Michalski Isoperms to better illustrate the impact of the
risks. The monitoring of the reconstruction occurred in the period of March 2020 to June 2021. The results generated by both isoperms and the comparison of internal and external data demonstrated the need for greater attention to climate variables in the hottest and rainiest months of the year. The diagnosis made with the help of the simplified script mainly demonstrates the need for some precautions to prevent the entry of animals into the storage.
