Resumen
The objective of the present work was to evaluate the eff ect of the supply of two types of grains, corn (Zea mays) and sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) subjected to two diff erent processes (ground and whole), on the ruminal population of fungi in Santa Inês lambs fed a no fi ber diet. 28 sheeps were assigned in a completely randomized design, with factorial arrangement 2x2, to four treatments: fi nely ground corn, whole grain corn, fi nely ground sorghum and whole grain sorghum. The response variables studied were: the pH of the ruminal fl uid, the macroscopic and physicochemical characteristics of the fl uid, the profi le of the population of facultative anaerobic fungi and of the strict anaerobic populations. The treatments were compared with the nonparametric test of the statistical package
ASSISTAT 7.7 Beta. The ruminal pH of lambs fed high grain diets is infl uenced by the type of processing and the grain source. A lower proportion of fi lamentous fungi was observed compared to the population of leveduriform fungi in all treatments. Strict anaerobic fungi were not observed in the rumen of lambs fed a high proportion of grain.
