Resumen
The daily practice of museum professionals is permeated by information exchange.
All activities related to the development of the museological process and consequently to
decision-making are carried out through the systematic use of information resources available
in each institution. Information competence is crucial for information professionals, about
seeking, appropriating, evaluating and sharing different types of information in an ethical and
responsible manner. Therefore, the article aims to discuss the use of information in museum
knowledge and practices by museum information professionals. The methodology took place
with the application of a semi-structured questionnaire, sent by direct mail on the Google
forms platform to three museums, two Brazilian museum institutions and one international
institution. The results indicated that appropriating only information is not enough, in addition, professionals need to develop/improve new skills, behaviors, values and attitudes in relation
to the use of information: information competence. Which reverberates in a change in the
organization's posture (collective learning environment) and of the museum staff itself (betting
on relationships). In conclusion, among other aspects, the research pointed to the need for
greater relationships and collaborative links between the teams and the management of
museums.
