En una muestra de 108 adultos mayores de 60 años que recibieron asistencia en la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad Nacional del Nordeste, se determinó el estado de salud dental y periodontal y la asociación de la cobertura de seguridad social en atención de salud con la necesidad de prótesis.El 56% eran mujeres; 65% tenía entre 60 69 años. 76% poseía obra social. Índice CPOD promedio 25.31 componente perdido promedio 22.13 (69.13%). Se halló ausencia de enfermedad periodontal en 93.26% y 40% presentó O' Leary no compatible con salud. Pacientes sin prótesis superiores 64% y 83% inferiores. Necesidad de prótesis parcial inferior 43% y 25% superior, completa en el arco superior 34% y en el inferior 33%.De los sujetos con cobertura en salud 62% necesitaban prótesis inferior y un 41% superior. En quienes no poseían cobertura en salud los porcentajes fueron menores, 20% y 18% respectivamente. Em uma amostra envolvendo 108 adultos maiores de 60 anos que receberam atendimento na Faculdade de Odontologia da Universidade Nacional do Nordeste, determinou-se o estado de saúde dental e periodontal, e a associagao da cobertura de seguranza social no atendimento de saúde com a necessidade de prótese. O 56% eram mulheres; 65% tinha entre 60 e 69 anos. O 76% contava com plano de saúde. Indice CPO-D média 25.31 - componente perdido média 22.13 (69.13%). Encontrou-se ausencia de doenga periodontal em 93.26% e 40% apresentou O' Leary nao compatível com saúde. Pacientes sem prótese superiores 64% e 83% inferiores. Necessidade de prótese parcial inferior 43% e 25% superior, completa no arco superior 34% e no inferior 33%. Das pessoas com plano de saúde, 62% precisava prótese inferior e um 41% superior. Aqueles que nao contavam com plano de saúde, as porcentagens foram menores, 20% e 18% respectivamente.
