Abstract
The present study determined the viability of the protein content of the Astyanax venezuelae and Astyanax integer species for their sustainable use by the riverside communities surrounding the Cola de Pato River. The identification of the muscle protein present in these two species was carried out using the Biuret method, a calibration curve was additionally elaborated with a standard protein (Bovine albumin serum) and a statistical analysis from the absorbances obtained were carried out, the dilution of the sample and the equation of the calibration curve. These calculations determined a percentage of protein in muscle for A. venezuelae of 3.4% and for A. integer of 3.2%. Although this percentage is lower than that provided in the literature for commercial fish, the two species make it possible to supply the minimum protein demand of a person in their daily diet. Information of interest for the community and for government entities since there are environmental problems in the water body where these species live and there are no management and protection measures; this due to the lack of studies in the region and knowledge of the environmental and social value provided by these species. All these relevant results are summarized in an informative poster and support the Sustainable Development Goals SDG2: Zero hunger and SDG12: Responsible consumption and production, with regard to the proposal of a more affordable protein consumption alternative and the information base of which more similar projects can be can be carried out.
