Experiencias y estrategias de afrontamiento frente a la alienación parental en una muestra de progenitores padres.

Abstract

Parental alienation is seen as a behavior in which the mother or father performs acts of manipulation towards their child, in order for the child to reject, resent or avoid the other parent (Rodriguez, 2011). Based on this, the general objective was to understand the experiences and coping strategies in the face of parental alienation in parents of the Fundación Padres por Siempre, an organization formed by parents who report having been victims of parental alienation. The study worked with three parents, to whom a mixed methodology was applied, in order to cover different research methods that contribute to a broad understanding. Quantitatively, the modified Coping Strategies Scale (EEC-M) was used, while qualitatively, the semi-structured individual interview technique was used. The results found that participants have used different strategies such as research and search for information on the situation, analyzing the dynamics of the problem, seeking to communicate and meet with their children, despite the obstacles, activism, seeking support from people who have experienced similar situations, legal procedures such as lawsuits, conciliation and seeking advice, problem solving, positive reevaluation, among others, as forms of coping with parental alienation.
