Resumen
Abstract
Introduction: the use of equipment and materials during dental care generates polluting waste, mainly in specialties such as oral rehabilitation, which must be minimized for the care of the environment. Therefore, it is necessary that these professionals have the ability to identify a second use of the materials and their correct final disposal. Objective: to design an educational material and to evaluate the knowledge of friendly dentistry before and after an educational intervention. Materials and methods: a quasi-experimental study with the participation of 28 residents of the oral rehabilitation postgraduate course at Universidad Santo Tomás. Through a self-completed questionnaire, information was collected on the knowledge of the classification of waste generated in dental practice, followed by the collection of these data, the educational material was presented. The evaluation of the change in knowledge was carried out two weeks after the intervention. The information was entered in Microsoft Excel and the data analysis was performed in the STATA 14.0 program. The evaluation of the change in knowledge was carried out with the Student's t-test. The bivariate analysis was performed with the Mann Whitney and Kruskall wallis U tests, as appropriate. Values of p<0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: the participation of women (60.7%) with a median age of 29.5 years, in stratum IV (50%) and single (46.2%) stood out. A change in the level of knowledge was evidenced after the educational intervention (p<0.05). Conclusions: the educational intervention in oral rehabilitation residents of the Universidad Santo Tomás worked as a strategy to improve the level of knowledge about friendly dentistry.
