Resumen
An experimental exploration of the errors produced in the process chain to obtain the cavity of a micro clamp for a plastic injection mould was developed. The manufacture of micro components presents challenges in terms of quality control, due to the miniaturization of dimensions and product tolerances. An electrolytic copper electrode was manufactured by the micro milling process on a conventional machining center using a high-speed mini-spindle. The feed rate for the micro machining process was reduced by about 80% with respect to the manufacturer's recommendation, due to the generation of errors in the tracking of the trajectories in micrometer scales. Subsequently, the penetration EDM process was used to mill the cavity in P20 steel. The scanning electron microscopy technique was used to measure the electrode and the cavity obtained. Deviations of 3% with respect to the nominal measurements were found in the meso milling process and 10% in micro milling. Deviations of up to 40% were found in the penetration EDM process. It was found that it is possible to perform micro machining technological operations in a conventional machining center, but previous studies should be carried out to determine the appropriate process parameters according to the available technological set-up
