Ideación suicida en adultos mayores del género femenino en la comunidad de Cazucá.

Abstract

The intention of this research was to evaluate the existence of suicidal ideation in a population of female elderly inhabitants of the locality of Cazucá, in the municipality of Soacha, by means of the application of the Positive and Negative Suicidal Ideation Inventory (PANSI), which is a psychometric instrument. This in order to answer the question: Is there a presence of suicidal ideation in the community of older adults of the female gender belonging to a foundation located in the municipality of Soacha? The research was of an empirical analytical type with an exploratory design and quantitative approach. Given that the amount of data was not sufficient to make estimates on the population of older adults, a descriptive analysis was made on the information collected. The analysis consisted of two phases: distribution analysis of the data collected with the PANSI test and univariate analysis, in order to observe the frequencies of the variables. The main data found show that, despite the precarious living conditions in which the participants find themselves, they possess protective factors that help them to face their reality. Likewise, the resilient ideas that help them adapt to the environment in which they live stand out, thus decreasing the rates of suicidal ideation in the population. It was also demonstrated that suicidal ideation is sequential and is not an indication of the consummation of the suicidal act.
