Resumen
The effect of obesity has been studied in critical patients in intensive care unit (ICU); however, its possible relationship with acute kidney injury (AKI) in ICU not fully defined. Objective: To describe the frequency of AKI between obese and non-obese subjects in the ICU. Methods: Retrospective cohort study, with information taken from medical records in patients hospitalized in ICU of a fourth-level hospital in Bogotá, between January and September 2020. The AKI was defined with the classification Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO), obesity was defined according to the classification of the world health organization WHO as a body mass index equal to or greater than 30 kg / m2. Results: 441 patients entered the final analysis, the mean age was 63 years and 60.1% were male, 138 (41.1%) patients had AKI and 106 (24%) were classified as obese. Obese patients had a higher frequency of AKI than non-obese patients (45.3% vs. 41.1%) did. The requirement for renal replacement therapy in the ICU (RRT) occurred more frequently in obese patients than in non-obese patients (12.3% vs. 7.1%). The frequency of ICU mortality among obese people was 14.2% versus 20.3% in non-obese patients. Conclusion: Among patients admitted to the ICU, the frequency of AKI was higher in obese patients
