En el presente trabajo se hace una revisión teórica sobre la adherencia al tratamiento (AT) de pacientes con VIH/SIDA. En él, se consulta sobre el tratamiento antirretroviral y la importancia de la adherencia a éste. También se revisan los factores que afectan la AT positiva y negativamente. Entre ellos se encuentran: factores intra-personales, extra-personales e inter-personales. Por último, se hace un resumen de las alternativas propuestas para mejorar la AT como apoyo social y familiar, empoderamiento del paciente, por medio de la información y participación en toma de decisiones, Terapia DAART, farmacológica y psicológica, ejercicio físico y trucos como alarmas y recordatorios.
