Utilización de tuna (opuntia ficus-indica) como coagulante orgánico en el tratamiento de aguas turbias

Resumen
La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo obtener un coagulante orgánico a partir de la tuna (opuntia ficus-indica) que pueda utilizarse como alternativa al uso de coagulantes sintéticos y que no son amigables con el medio ambiente, para ello se siguió una metodología que consistió en: Recepción de las pencas de nopal, extracción del mucílago, caracterización del mucílago (humedad, % de cenizas, % de proteínas, sólidos totales, pH, conductividad eléctrica), obtención del coagulante mediante la extracción con alcohol etílico para diferentes condiciones de operación (relación nopal/agua y masa inicial de nopal). Una vez obtenido el coagulante se realizaron las pruebas de remoción de turbidez de las aguas turbias, para diferentes concentraciones de coagulante: 10 mg, 20 mg y 30 mg de coagulante por 500 ml de agua turbia, obteniéndose porcentajes de remoción de 41,65%; 69,42% y 86,54% respectivamente, por lo que se concluye que la eficiencia de remoción de la turbidez del coagulante depende de la cantidad de coagulante a utilizar: a mayor concentración mayor será el porcentaje de remoción
