Esta tesis tiene como objetivo principal determinar el índice de calidad de agua del rio Moquegua por influencia del vertimiento de la planta de tratamiento de aguas residuales – Omo, durante el periodo 2014 – 2015. Dicho índice pretende clasificar en una escala de 0 a 100 la calidad representativa del agua, calificada como excelente, buena, media, mala y muy mala. Para la evaluación se utilizó el indicador ICA – NFS, el cual contempla nueve parámetros que son: temperatura, pH, nitratos, oxígeno disuelto, fosfatos, coliformes fecales, turbiedad, sólidos disueltos totales y demanda bioquímica de oxígeno. Para conocer las variaciones espaciales y temporales de la calidad del agua se analizó la información de los años 2014 y 2015 obtenidas de la administración local del agua Moquegua , entidad prestadora de servicio, gerencia regional de salud y proyecto especial regional Pasto Grande, con dichos resultados se calculó el índice de calidad de Brown-NSF en el río Moquegua antes del vertimiento presenta un ICA-NSF de 51,44 que representa calidad media y en el tramo después del vertimiento tiene un ICA-NSF de 44,18 que representa calidad mala. Los monitoreos realizados en los años 2014 y 2015 antes y después del vertimiento de la planta de tratamiento de aguas residuales, superan los estándares de calidad ambiental con la categoría 3, en los parámetros de pH, fosfatos, DBO5, OD y coliformes termotolerantes, mientras que los demás parámetros evaluados se encuentran dentro de los estándares nacionales de calidad ambiental para agua.
