Resumen
El tratamiento de Ortodoncia requiere de una correcta planificación para lograr el movimiento dental
deseado con mínimos efectos adversos, para ello es necesario que el clínico tenga conocimientos
de biomecánica con la finalidad de comprender como funciona el sistema de fuerzas.
El sistema de fuerzas es el conjunto de fuerzas y momentos otorgados por los aparatos de ortodoncia
y los dientes durante el movimiento dentario. Está compuesto por una unidad activa, que es donde
habrá movimiento y una unidad reactiva, que corresponde al anclaje. Para describir esta filosofía es
necesario conocer la técnica de arco segmentado propuesta por Charles Burstone, lo que nos
permitirá entender cómo actúan las fuerzas y momentos en la unidad activa y en la unidad reactiva.
Por lo que, es de vital importancia conocer conceptos básicos como: centro de resistencia, relación
momento/fuerza, centro de rotación, momento cupla, equilibrio del sistema, tipos de movimiento
dental, posición neutra. Así como, entender de qué manera y que aparatos actúan en un sistema de
fuerza estáticamente determinado (cantiléver), en el sistema de fuerza estáticamente indeterminado
(geometrías de Burstone), entre otros que serán definidos en el presente trabajo.
