Relación entre el nivel socioeconómico y rendimiento académico escolar: evidencia de la evaluación censal de estudiantes 2019

El objetivo de esta investigación es determinar si existe una relación causal entre el nivel socioeconómico (NSE) y el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes escolares en el Perú. Para ello, se utilizó la Evaluación Censal de Estudiantes del año 2019 (ECE-2019), aplicada por la Oficina de Medición de la Calidad de los Aprendizajes (UMC) del Ministerio de Educación a los alumnos de segundo grado de secundaria. Este censo contiene información de las notas de tres evaluaciones estandarizadas: Lectura, Matemáticas y Ciencia y Tecnología. Para medir el efecto causal del NSE del alumno sobre el rendimiento académico en estas materias, se estimaron modelos de regresión para cada evaluación y se utilizó la variación exógena del NSE del resto del colegio como variable instrumental del NSE del alumno. Los resultados muestran que el nivel socioeconómico (NSE) del alumno ayuda a predecir el rendimiento académico escolar en los cursos de Lectura y Ciencia y Tecnología; sin embargo, su efecto causal es muy pequeño. Además, no se encuentra evidencia robusta de un efecto causal del NSE del alumno en la nota de Matemáticas.
