Experimental evidence is presented which shows a good correlation between velocity variations of 1. (1) the vertical motions of the F-region electrons in the equatorial ionosphere, and 2. (2) the horizontal motions of electrons in the underlying E-region. This observation supports the theory that the E-region electric fields are projected into the F-region along the electrically equipotential magnetic field lines.
