Se realizó un estudio de la diversidad de especies del género Vibrio asociada a mortalidades larvarias masivas en la concha de abanico (Argopecten purpuratus) cultivadas en “hatchery”. Las muestras fueron tomadas en seis desoves de concha de abanico en un “hatchery”, tanto en individuos en el fondo del tanque de cultivo como suspendidos en la columna de agua, a 72 horas posteriores al desove a 19 °C. Se transportaron las muestras a una temperatura de 5 ± 2 °C, a los laboratorios de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH), donde se incubaron a 20 °C en los medios de Agar Marino (AM) y Tiosulfato Citrato Bilis Sacarosa (TCBS). Posterior a la caracterización morfológica, se enfrentó los aislados al agente vibriostático O/129. Los aislados se caracterizaron bioquímicamente utilizando el sistema comercial miniaturizado API® 20E. Se identificó al Vibrio alginolyticus asociado a eventos de mortalidades larvales masivas, además se observaron signos clínicos en las larvas afectadas como ciliostasis, necrosis de cilios, fractura valvar, nado errático, swarming y posterior muerte de las mismas. La presencia de este patógeno, al igual que en sistemas de cultivo controlado de concha de abanico en Chile, es causante de importantes pérdidas en cultivos de Argopecten purpuratus.
