Páginas 33-43 La primera vez que aparece la política en mi mente, o en mi vida, fue muy temprano, tendría yo unos siete o seis años. Un pariente de mi padre se refugió dos veces en mi casa; era aprista, Fernando García Oquendo. Ahí se hablaba y yo, chico, entendía que la policía lo buscaba y después iban a detenerlo y estaba escondido en mi casa porque lo perseguían por político. La idea de la política se asoció con algo que se vinculaba al delito o, en todo caso, a una persecución del poder. Y esa persecución, obviamente, era injusta; por eso era que mi padre lo protegía. Esa es la idea que racionalizo ahora. La política efectivamente está ahí y aparece como algo peligroso, algo que no podía explicarme: por qué perseguían a un hombre que era inocente, que no había hecho otra cosa que hacer política, que meterse con el poder, con el sistema de gobierno.
