dc.description.abstract | Over time, cemeteries have become places of social memory, testimonies of beliefs, histories, culture, in which the social, ideological and political structure
of a place is manifested. In Cuenca, this is reflected in the Municipal Cemetery, since it is the oldest and most representative of the city since 1862.
However, with a history of more than 150 years of service, and the almost non-existent availability of spaces for the construction of burial units, has led
to estimate that its useful life period is about to end, which will lead to an unsatisfied demand for burial units, prompting the EMUCE EP to reflect on the
importance of guaranteeing its cultural legacy and ensuring a satisfied future demand.
Consequently, the EMUCE EP, acquired a property of approximately 11Ha. in the sector of Santa Teresita de Monay, next to the Santa Ana Cemetery, for the
creation of a new Municipal Cemetery.
Consequently, the present work, tries to give solution to this problem. It consists of a proposal at the preliminary design of the New Municipal
Cemetery of Cuenca, from a preliminary study of the site, in complement with the analysis of case studies from which architectural and
functional decisions can be abstracted and applied in the context, resulting in the creation of a new preliminary design constructively
and economically feasible, capable of enhancing the funerary practices and ensure the legacy of the Municipal Cemetery of Cuenca. | |
