Diseño del anteproyecto arquitectónico del Centro Geriátrico para la parroquia Ricaurte, Cuenca- Ecuador

Abstract

As is universally known, older adults are in a stage of fragility in which they need care services for their personal care, this due to multiple diseases, the gradual deterioration of their body that induces them to isolation, depression, loneliness, or the appearance of several complex health conditions that are usually known by the name of geriatric syndromes. The sum of all these factors argues for the emergence of geriatric centers oriented to the care of the elderly. However, in the parish of Ricaurte there is a deficit of these spaces for the care and attention of the elderly. It is for this reason that the GADPR of Ricaurte, within its PDOT establishes as a strategy to help this vulnerable group, through the implementation of spaces where the elderly can be cared for. It is worth mentioning that in Ricaurte there is only a Type B Health Sub-center where the entire population of the different neighborhoods goes, but there are no places or facilities that provide care for the elderly, much less spaces or areas to encourage their autonomy and independence. Faced with this need, the GADPR of Ricaurte requested the development of this preliminary project through an agreement with the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of Cuenca. The main objective was the architectural design for the Geriatric Center in the rural parish of Ricaurte, intended to provide care services for the attention and comprehensive care for the elderly. For the development of this preliminary project, we first conducted a research which allowed us to better understand the different needs of the elderly, as well as to know in depth what they are for, how they work and what are the services provided by the Geriatric Centers in Ecuador. After this, a case study was carried out, which allowed us to obtain a broader approximation of the operation and formal, technological and functional solutions used in projects of the same nature. Finally, prior to the design of the preliminary project, a site analysis was carried out in order to make an adequate diagnosis for the intervention in the parish of Ricaurte, this was approached from a macro vision that embraces the entire parish, to a micro vision established by the intervention site. All the research and analysis carried out were useful for the design of the preliminary project of the Geriatric Center carried out in the last stage.
