Resumen
The constant increase in crime in Ecuador in recent years has had a negative impact on
companies, as they are forced to incur additional costs to stay in the market. Despite this,
there have been few studies on the subject. For this reason, through an ESDA analysis and
an econometric analysis of panel data and spatial panel data, the impact of crimes against
property, violence and corruption on the level of sales of micro and small enterprises at the
cantonal level for the period 2016-2019 has been studied. Finding that property and violent
crimes are the most influential on the sales of microenterprises, while for small businesses
only property crimes have a negative impact. These results highlight the importance of
creating public policies together with the private sector in order to prevent, control and reduce
crime.
