Resumen
The objective of this research was to determine the relationship between incision healing in
canine patients undergoing ovariohysterectomy and hematocrit, leukocytes, platelets, and
plasma protein values. The studied population consisted of 54 canines from 1 to 4 years of
age, weighing between 5 and 11 kg, body condition > 3 (n=27) and < 3 (n=27). The size of the
incision was evaluated in the postoperative period at 5, 10 and 15 days. The effect of leukocyte,
hematocrit, platelet, plasma protein, and body condition levels on incision size was evaluated
using analysis of variance and Tukey's 5% test. The relationship between the values of
leukocytes, hematocrit, platelets, plasma proteins and the size of the incision was evaluated
by correlation. The results did not show a statistically significant difference (P>0.05). It is
concluded that the relation of the hematological values, although they did not present
significant differences with respect to the size of the incision in the days post-surgery, would
let us know if the patient presents any systemic pathology and therefore would allow us to
make an optimal decision. at the time of whether or not to admit her to surgery; on the other
hand, the body condition in patients considered within group 2 (>3) presented a better
reduction in the size of the incision from the first moment of measurement; indicating an
apparent better state of health that was reflected with respect to those patients in group 1 < 3.
