Resumen
Most of the neighborhood parks located in the urban limits of the city of
Cuenca have common characteristics; they are usually designed for a group
stereotype and discriminate against users with different types of limitations
and disabilities. Such is the case of older adults who are conditioned in this
type of spaces by their design and function. Demographic data foresee an
increase in the population of people over 60 years of age. This means that
goods, infrastructure, programs and projects must be designed for this
growing population sector. The need for a park for the elderly is evident, so
a design that satisfies the current deficiencies is also evident. In order to
obtain favorable results and a good architectural urban design, it is
proposed to analyze basic concepts related to public space and the elderly.
Through the Qualitative Data Methodology of Open Public Spaces, in
addition to other criteria, relevant case studies will be analyzed. Also under
the same methodology, added to the one applied in the article Urban parks
as indicators of quality of life, symbols of well-being and spaces for
recreational use: an investigation in Bucaramanga (Colombia) a qualitative
diagnosis of neighborhood parks located in the PIT of Machanga and
Yanuncay. Choosing through these criteria the Iberia Park. Finally, under a
site analysis and previous strategies of the different chapters to generate a
correct redesign of a neighborhood park for the welfare of the elderly in the
urban area of the city of Cuenca.
