Resumen
Background: WHO mentions that some children between 0 to 23 months are not adequately fed, resulting in malnutrition problems. In fact, 52 million children under 5 years of age are wasted, 17 million are severely wasted, 155 million are stunted and 41 million are overweight or obese.
Objectives: To determine the factors related to the early abandonment of breastfeeding in children under 24 months attending the Pumapungo (N°1), Carlos Elizalde (N°4), Tarqui and Victoria del Portete Health Centers in the months of January-July 2022.
Methods: The present research has a quantitative, analytical and cross-sectional approach. A finite sample of 144 mothers of infants under 24 months of age was used. A semi-structured questionnaire was used, subjected to piloting, the Breastfeeding Knowledge Level Questionnaire elaborated by Ferro M. and Flores; modified by Fiorela Zapata Carnero; Attitude Instrument elaborated by Sota Liseth and modified by Aguirre Sheylla, Gómez Vanessa; Criteria indicated by Unicef on Breastfeeding Myths and Realities. The tabulation was performed in the following programs: Microsoft Excel 2016 and SPSS version 20 for Windows and the results were described in frequency tables and percentages.
Results: The predominant age group was 19 to 25 years old (49.3%), mothers in union (36.1%), basic education level (52.8%), occupation of QQ. DD. (66%), with one child (48.6%) and rural residence (51.4%) (n=144). The prevalence of dropout was 23% (n=33). Educational level had a significant relationship: 0.001 with breastfeeding abandonment.
