Resumen
The 2030 Agenda of the United Nations points to education as a transversal strategy with
the mission of educating citizens who, assuming as their own the principles and values of
sustainability, contribute to the accomplishment of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The family, educational agent of the first order, is solicited by this appeal to give a response
to practice this type of education. With this approach and in order to detect possible training
needs, this research seeks to know the assessment that sons and daughters make of parental
support/control practices of their corresponding parents and, additionally, verify the
relationship of this factor with the psychosocial adjustment of the subjects. The population
of the study is made up of adolescents (14-18 years old) from different educational
institutions in the city of Cuenca (Ecuador). The data have been collected through a
questionnaire adapted from scales in use and validated in Cuenca´s population. The results
show the need for a change in parental styles, oriented towards the formation of sons and
daughters as citizens of societies which are characterized by the sustainability of their
development.
