Background: Health care personnel is exposed to biological risk due to different potentially infectious microorganisms that can harm its health as a consequence of clinical practice in hospitals and health centers. It leads to the existence of a higher risk of disease transmission in this professional subgroup. Objective: To characterize the notification of biological risk in healthcare personnel of the Hospital de Especialidades José Carrasco Arteaga. July – December 2022. Cuenca – Ecuador. Methods: A cross-sectional study was developed. The sample consisted of 202 randomly selected individuals. It has been analyzed quantitative variables expressed with average, median and mode. The qualitative variables were expressed in frequencies and percentages. Results: The predominant group is female (72.8%). The 37,1% belongs to the nursing personnel. All the participants are exposed to biological risk accidents, of which, 59,9% have suffered an ARB, with punctures being the most frequent (31.7%). The 46,3% have reported and the 53.7% have not. The reasons have been: lack of time (80%), followed by lack of knowledge of the protocol (60%). The 59.5% suggests that it should have amelioration of declaration processes Conclusions: Within the research, most of the health care personnel have suffered any type of ARB, being punctures or cuts the most frequent and less than half have reported it. Most of them indicate lack of time and lack of knowledge of the protocol as the main reason.
