Resumen
This study aimed to evaluate the water quality in the river Lupique, located in Jimbitono community, through the ICA-NSF index based on the physicochemical and microbiological parameters and also to identify the benthic macroinvertebrates as bioindicators. Three sampling locations were determined in a three kilometers-river section, and then samplings could be performed in a period of three months November, December (2021) and January (2022). Water samples were taken from each location and followed the analysis procedures indicated in the Standard Methods both in the field and in laboratory. Once the ICA-NSF 9 parameters were determined to collect the macroinvertebrates, D-net was used, and it adapted to various substrates and body’s water irregularities; samples were brought to the laboratory to be taxonomically identified. The results obtained from the BMWP/Col biological index, showed that it was obtained a GOOD water quality value in PML-1 plant, decreased to ACCEPTABLE in PML-2 and PML-3 plants. ICA-NSF index showed that water quality is REGULAR in PML-1 and PML-2 plants; instead in PML-3, water quality is GOOD, so that the results reveal that water unfitS for human consumption but can be used for agricultural purposes. By analyzing the IQA-data software parameters, it was determined that faecal coliforms were the main cause of the water quality and probably that was because of the rains within the months of November and December. It is recommended that the authorities take control and limit the discharge of wastewater or domestic wastewater in the river or in the slopes connected to it.
