Resumen
The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of obesity in patients diagnosed with cholelithiasis and its relationship with the postoperative complications of the José María Velasco Ibarra de Tena Hospital “between September 2018 and March 2019, for which we conducted an observational descriptive study, cross-sectional, retrospective, analyzing clinical histories of patients diagnosed with cholelithiasis, a sample of 115 patients that shows the following results: the prevalence of obesity in patients with cholelithiasis is 22.6%, with a predominance of female sex (78%) in net relation to cholelithiasis and (57.7%) obesity / cholelithiasis relationship, the age group being constant between 20 and 64 years, in addition the normal category of Body Mass Index (BMI) predominates with 53.04%. A low incidence of complications is evidenced, the most frequent during the manifestation of pathology is cholecystitis and the most frequent postoperative complication is the infection of the surgical site in spite of manifesting only 2 isolated cases of overweight or obesity. Diet is the most relevant predisposing factor due to the high cholesterol production depending on the increase in BMI and the ages advanced by the changes in the anatomical and functional conformation of the human being. It is of vital importance to take into account the determinants of the health-disease process of the population under study to guide the management of preventive methods, early diagnoses and adequate treatments as a fundamental basis to improve the quality of community life.
