The objective of this research was to perform a 40-year-old male patient analysis, who attends the Ecuadorian Social Insurance Institute IESS General Hospital in Riobamba, for showing a clinical chart within 2 weeks of evolution characterized by presenting 9 small reddish-yellow liquid stools, accompanied by a Colic type abdominal pain located in the left iliac fossa and hypogastrium, in the presence of chronic diarrhea in a person should be considered inflammatory bowel disease (CD or UC). In addition, the patient says he did not go quickly to be evaluated because he felt ashamed of his discomforts and inconveniences he presented repeatedly, the doctor comes to the decision to admit him in the hospital for approximately 23 days to provide in-hospital treatment, during his stay in this health home he was evaluated by many specialties such as Gastroenterology, Nutrition, Internal Medicine, additional diagnostic studies were also required, such as colonoscopy in which the presence of ulceration, polyps, and stenosis at the level of the right sigma junction was evidenced, laboratory tests reported leukocytes within normal parameters, electrolytes within normal standards, decreased hemoglobin values with a 11.5 g / dl value, high CRP, with the results of these studies the diagnosis of ulcerative colitis is confirmed, and treatment based on corticosteroids, obtaining clinical improvement. At the time the patient is referred to continue administering the therapeutic scheme mentioned above, although it still persists with the discomfort, but refers to their decrease in relation to admission. Ulcerative colitis is a disease of which its etiology is still unknown, it is incurable and requires disciplined compliance with the control and therapy established by the doctor, to avoid exacerbation of the same (crisis) and thus improve the life quality in the family, work and social aspects of the patient.
