Resumen
Due to the increase in demand for formaldehyde from the inter-American company of
chemical products of Ecuador Interquimec S.A. the need to increase production capacity was
generated, so its processes must be repowered, one of them is the cooling process, which
requires the construction of a new cooling tower.
This project proposes the implementation of an automated control system based on the
stabilization of temperature and pressure variables, analyzing the mechanical structure that
guarantees physical integrity for its operation.
The theoretical foundations exposed in the first chapter offer preliminary information for the
implementation.
The second chapter details the correct selection of the instruments to be used, with the
technical explanation of each of them and their function in the process.
In the third chapter, the simulation of the structure was carried out using modeling software
and calculation of the values of tension and maximum resistance supported by the materials
used in the tower, the calculation of the transfer function and PID control that will allow a
correct operation of the cooling system for formaldehyde production. In the fourth chapter,
the results obtained in the simulation are exposed together with the confirmation of the
stability of the structure, making the comparison with the data provided by each manufacturer
and the results obtained from the tests and operation of the automated system of the tower
with speed control to control the temperature and pressure necessary for production,
demonstrating the improvements in operability in formaldehyde production.
