Resumen
The empty nest syndrome refers to the stage in which children leave their parent’s home for different reasons, causing in them significative changes. It is for this reason that depression and anxiety traits in this population are analyzed.
This research was conducted with 30 people between the ages of 35 to 61 in the city of Quito. The objective was to identify the relation that exists between depression and anxiety in fathers and mothers of young people between 20 and 30 years old who are going through the empty nest syndrome.
The methodology used in the current work was quantitative, using psychometric tests such as the Beck II Depression Inventory and the Beck Anxiety Inventory, in addition to a survey that allowed the identification of sociodemographic characteristics of the respondents in order to relate them with the traits of the empty nest syndrome.
