dc.description.abstractThe 2022 FIFA World Cup was held in Qatar. Since its election in 2010, it has been surrounded by controversy; several media and public figures have accused the country of corruption and human rights violations, and it has even been discussed whether the event was used to impose Qatar in geopolitics. This research seeks to analyze the different narratives generated by: Al Jazeera, Amnesty International and Marca in their media coverage of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, to, explain their intervention in geopolitics and how these narratives impacted the public. To meet the proposed objectives, this mixed research is handled under the socio-critical paradigm, in addition, it uses critical discourse analysis (CDA) in the 15 notes that make up the corpus, the same, were selected under a temporal and thematic criterion from among 60 news items selected among the 3 case studies, the analysis was performed using matrices. It presents a survey that aims to investigate the opinion of the students of the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana Girón campus on the FIFA 2022 World Cup. Concluding that Al Jazeera and Amnesty International were the ones that had a very marked agenda setting and communicative intention, being, Al Jazeera who defended Qatar, while Amnesty International denounced the injustices towards Qatar, while, Marca was a very neutral media that shared both narratives, also, the Qatar 2022 World Cup in conjunction with the media, were used as a geopolitical tool, finally, the case studies being a source of raw information, managed to share their narratives to the public selected by the research.
