Tourism is one of the main foundations in the growth of Ecuador’s economy since it affects the level of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), balance of trade and employment generation. On March 2020, the tourism sector was affected by the COVID-19 outbreak, which was declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization, this is why the following investigation has as purpose, to analyze the economical effect by COVID-19 on the tourism sector in Guayas on the year 2020. For this, documental research was made, besides a poll done to 361 establishments belonging to the main towns of the Guayas state, where it was gotten as a result that this pandemic harmed them by decreasing the customer demand, paralyzing their operations, and even shutting their businesses. Furthermore, 45% of those surveyed stated that the income of their companies compared to the previous year fell between 1% and 25% and 42% of the sample indicated that it was between 26% and 50%, causing layoffs between 1 % and 10% of the people who worked in these organizations. An interview was performed to experts on the subject, so we could meet their opinions, agreeing that the epidemic transformed a whole economy and businesses visions; by adapting y co-living with the virus to continue their economic duties. Finally, to reactivate the tourism sector it must be strengthen the customers trust by giving security to the touristic destinations of Ecuador’s.
