Objectives: To relate the types of migration considering social determinants of health in the American Continent; and characterize the migrant population by sex. Methods: A search was done at PubMed, Scielo, Lilacs, EBSCO, and Google Scholar using MeSH terms. For the inclusion criteria, the title and abstract were analyzed considering: being linked to migration in the American continent, related to the social determinants of health and language (Spanish or English). Articles that mentioned migratory processes or migrants from Asia, Africa, Europe, Oceania, migrations in the same country, investigations where migration was linked to specific pathologies, critical reviews of the literature, and letters to the editor were excluded. Results: titles and abstracts of 1,488 articles were accessed, inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied, obtaining 25 articles. 4 duplicate articles were eliminated, reaching 21 final articles. Conclusion: Regardless of the type of migration, there is a greater female migratory flow. The determinants that affect health are similar in general within the American continent. However, when we talk about access to the health system, it was observed that there is a difference, depending on the type of migrationObjetivo: Relacionar los tipos de migración con los determinantes sociales de la salud en el Continente Americano; y a su vez, caracterizar a la población migrante de acuerdo al sexo.Material y Métodos: Se realizó una búsqueda en PubMed, Scielo, Lilacs, EBSCO y Google Académico. Para la selección de los artículos se analizó el título y resumen donde debían contener algún término MeSH, estar vinculados con la migración en el continente americano, relacionado con los determinantes sociales de la salud y en idioma español o inglés. Se eliminaron todos aquellos que mencionaban procesos migratorios o migrantes de Asia, África, Europa y Oceanía, migraciones al interior del país, investigaciones donde la migración se vinculaba con patologías específicas, revisiones críticas de la literatura y cartas al editor. Resultados: Se accedió a los títulos y resúmenes de 1.488 artículos, a los cuales se le aplicaron los criterios de inclusión y exclusión; obteniendo 25 artículos que fueron ingresados a una base de datos. Se identificaron 4 artículos duplicados, los que fueron eliminados, alcanzando un total 21 artículos finales. Conclusión: Independiente del tipo de migración, existe un mayor flujo migratorio femenino, a su vez, los determinantes que afectan a la salud son en general similares dentro del continente americano, pero al hablar sobre el acceso a la salud se observó que existe una diferencia respecto a este dependiendo del tipo de migración.
