La provincia de Satipo presenta un medio favorable para la explotación porcina en sus diferentes razas y cruces comerciales. Debido a la actividad agraria que presenta la zona, existen excedentes y rechazos comerciales de productos como plátanos y frutas en general. El planteamiento del problema fue el siguiente: ¿Cuál es la respuesta productiva y económica al utilizar concentrado proteico en una dieta a base de plátano entero de rechazo como fuente energética en relación al alimento balanceado no comercial, para la alimentación de cerdos en crecimiento?. Los objetivos del estudio fueron, determinar la respuesta productiva y económica al utilizar concentrado proteico, como complemento a una dieta de plátano entero maduro como fuente energética, en cerdos en crecimiento. El estudio se llevó a cabo en el fundo Montañéz ubicado en el distrito de Mazamari, provincia de Satipo, Departamento de Junin. La zona se ubica a una altitud de 700 m.s.n.m. El estudio se realizó entre los meses de Octubre de 2005 a Febrero de 2006, utilizando 18 lechones destetados de 20 kg de peso promedio y dos meses de edad. Los tratamientos fueron, tratamiento 1: alimento balanceado, elaborado en la granja según los requerimientos del National Research Council, 1998, tratamiento 2: dieta a base de plátano “Isla” maduro at libitum mas un suplemento concentrado, en cantidad calculada a cubrir el 100% del requerimiento de lisina, según N.R.C. 1998; tratamiento 3: dieta a base de plátano “Isla” maduro entero at libitum mas un suplemento concentrado en cantidad calculada que cubra el 70% del requerimiento de lisina, según N.R.C. 1998. El diseño estadístico fue en bloque completos al azar con análisis de covarianza al peso inicial. Los resultados a los 75 dias, fueron para peso vivo 72.15 kg, 63.88 kg y 64.3 kg; ganancia de peso 0.677, 0.563 y 0.577 kg x dia -1 , para los tratamientos 1, 2 y 3 respectivamente, no existiendo diferencia estadística (p<0.05) entre los tratamientos 2 y 3, pero el tratamiento control (T1) sí difiere estadísticamente del resto de tratamientos (p<0.05). La conversión alimenticia en base seca, fue de 3.07, 2.49 y 1.96, para los tratamientos 1, 2 y 3 respectivamente; siendo estadísticamente diferentes los tres tratamientos (p>0.05). La retribución económica por animal fue de S/. 104.41, S/.81.75 y S/106.08, asi como el costo del alimento por kilogramo de peso ganado fue de S/. 2.93, S/.3.15 y S/2.49, para los tratamientos 1, 2 y 3 respectivamente. Se concluye que el peso vivo, ganancia de peso, y conversión alimenticia resultaron ser similares para los cerdos alimentados a base de plátanos con suplemento concentrado en cantidad a cubrir el 100% del requerimiento de lisina, y suplemento concentrado en cantidad a cubrir el 70% del requerimiento de lisina. La mejor retribución económica y mejor costo del alimento por kilogramo de ganancia de peso, se encontró con la dieta a base de plátano de rechazo y suplemento concentrado en cantidad a cubrir el 70% del requerimiento de lisina. De acuerdo a los resultados, es probable que la deficiencia energética del plátano en estado fresco y la limitación física en el consumo voluntario del mismo, no fue posible cubrir los requerimientos de energía de las dietas en estudio razón a ello, el tratamiento control a base de alimento balanceado obtuvo mejor respuesta productiva, pero menor respuesta económica alimentaria.
