Suriname. Significant achievements 2010-2017

Abstract

The main activities carried out by the Institute in Suriname are identified, during the period from 2010 to 2017, with respect to the needs and interests of the country, strengthening issues such as agrotourism, fruit growing, horticulture, composting, sustainability, governance, management of natural resources, irrigation systems, use of biofertilizers, organic agriculture, use of greenhouses, risk management, risk mapping, resilience against climate change, water and soil management. Likewise, work was done on the use of greenhouses, biofuels, drought control, pest and disease control, such as the fruit fly. Finally, support was given to improving the value chains of cassava and chili, as well as the inclusion of women in agriculture.

Se identifican las principales actividades realizadas por el Instituto en Suriname, durante el período comprendido desde el año 2010 al 2017, con respecto a las necesidades e intereses del país, fortaleciendo en temas como agroturismo, fruticultura, horticultura, compostaje, sostenibilidad, gobernanza, manejo de recursos naturales, sistemas de riego, empleo de biofertilizantes, agricultura orgánica, uso de invernaderos, gestión de riesgos, mapeo de riesgos, resiliencia contra el cambio climático, manejo de agua y suelo. Asimismo, se trabajó en el uso de invernaderos, biocombustibles, en el control de la sequía, control de plagas y enfermedades, como la mosca de la fruta. Finalmente se apoyó en mejorar las cadenas de valor de la yuca y el chile, así como en la inclusión de la mujer en la agricultura.
